FAQ
“Mānuka honey can be used as a natural alternative to the clinical use of antibiotics and antiseptics for the treatment of necrotic, devitalized and infected wounds….” Why use Mānuka Honey, Amanda Curtis RVN, a small animal veterinary nurse, AFON Veterinary Centre, South Wales, The Veterinary Nurse: December 2018/January 2019, Volume 9 No 10
The active antibiotic ingredients of Manui Mānuka wound cream include methylglyoxal and naturally produced hydrogen peroxide. Research papers on mānuka honey indicate the combination of methylglyoxal acidity, osmolality and the supersaturated sucrose and fructose make the wound cream an effective first line wound treatment.
Naturally occurring hydrogen peroxide is what gives all honey its antibacterial properties. However mānuka honey has an extra special component called methyglyoxal and this is what sets it apart from other honey types.
The honey we use in our potion is tested by Analytica Laboratories New Zealand to ensure it meets the New Zealand mono floral Manuka standard. For more information about the “broad spectrum antimicrobial properties of mānuka honey” check out www.analytica.co.nz/tests/honey-testing/manuka-honey-3-in-1/dha-and-mg-explained
We trialled it on ourselves and I have used it on my dog Sam, with great results. It can be used on horses, cats, dogs, goats, cows, people.
What sort of wounds can it be used on?
